Whether or not you appreciate the once apple-green leaves transforming into a warm palette of oranges and reds and slipping off their wooden limbs or even the gentle breeze that replaces the once humid air, fall is upon us. And as you pull out your knitted sweaters and black turtlenecks, we recommend falling onto your couch in the cool late evenings to enjoy the best movies this spooky season offers. And we’ll even clue you in on one of the best-underrated masterpieces to kick off 2022’s cuffing season.

Practical Magic is that movie you recall first watching with an older female figure in your life. If you have not had that, allow me. It is the perfect movie for when the weather cools, and cuddling with a girlfriend, a partner, or even yourself is the perfect night in. This movie will join your mental list of comfort movies.

Practical Magic takes a witchy spin on a traditional trope of soulmates and second chances. Sally, played by the young and captivating Sandra Bullock, and her sister Gillian star as two witch sisters raised by a lengthy line of heartbroken but eccentric women, trying to find themselves and find love. Nicole Kidman, who graced the screen as Sandra’s little sister, finds herself wrapped up in a dark relationship with themes of sisterhood, family, and, my favorite, magic. It’s scary, sexy, and touching.
If my recap isn’t enough to get you hooked, this movie was released in 1998, a decade that arguably has the best movies for its creativity, originality, and good old 90’s nostalgia that connects us with the simple specialties that remind us of what makes us happy. It’s a fun and bizarre movie and even better with a glass of wine or some hot cider if you inevitably find yourself in the fall mood.
